Aspects of travel...Migration, Immigration and Emmigration.

In my previous post I developed the topic of travel, with a closing focus particularly aimed at introducing and teaching this area to Primary School children...


The following terms could be defined as:


MIGRATION - To go from one place to settle in another, especially in a foreign country.




The migration of Mexicans to the United States of America has been occurring for many years.








IMMIGRATION - The act of coming to a foreign country in order to settle there.




EMMIGRATION - To leave one's native country to settle in another country.

What exactly do we mean by 'Travel'?

The whole notion of the word travel is an incredibly fascinating one and covers an extremely broad spectrum...

For instance, if I were to ask you what connotations immediatley arose with regards to travel, what would your likely responses be I wonder?

I would speculate that they would include reactions such as:

  • Flying to another country for a holiday,
  • Backpacking (around Australia for example),
  • Catching a train (to Edinburgh for the Fringe Festival in August let's say), or
  • Driving (to Cornwall at Easter for the half-term break).

The nature of travel is of course dependant on context, however each and every scenario outlined above all share one resounding fact...THE MOVEMENT OF PEOPLE FROM ONE PLACE TO ANOTHER!

In terms of introducing the concept of travel to Primary School children, this would be the fundamental basis to subsequently develop...
